Communal drawing (part of our last evening before Christmas)

The aim of this exercise was to encourage intuitive response to pre-existing marks on the paper, whilst the mood was created by music (stride piano). Everyone had a large sheet of paper and made random marks for 2 minutes. They then passed their sheet to the left, and over the next 2 mins responded to the marks they saw, making either representational or non-representational marks of their own. The process was repeated, and when all 16 members had marked each sheet, the exercise stopped.

The pictures below show a selection of the "images" produced by the same people using the same media. There are echoes of surrealism and cave-paintings.

Blindfold drawing

Marion took this photo of Dot and Fiona at work on 1 Dec. It speaks for itself!

Meeting 8 Dec 2011

This Thurs being the last session this year, there will be an arty-party feel to the evening.

Juliet and Ann M are handling the catering, and I will be nagging you do some expressive communal drawing to music by candlelight. I'll bring the inevitable grey paper, if you can bring charcoal and chalk or pastel.

Best wishes

Harry

December activities and Christmas break

We will be meeting for the first two Thursdays in December and, after the Christmas break, reconvene on 12 January 2012.

On 1 Dec we will be having fun doing wacky drawing (click on the Programme tab above for more details.)  Bring cheap paper, pencils & charcoal ... and an open mind, which goes without saying, of course.

Juliet has suggested that on 8 Dec we have an art-and-social evening, with mince pies and seasonal drinks. Details to follow soon.

Still life: from tonal to full colour

Last night, at another well-attended meeting, we started developing our tonal still life studies into full-colour images.

Tonal studies theme

It was full house on Thurs 3 Nov for our Tonal Studies theme, led by Beryl. The subject is a still life of favourite objects.
This first evening was concerned with getting the composition right, using thumb-nail sketches. You will see from the photos below how enthusiastically members approached the challenge.
Next week we are developing the subject in black and white on grey paper.

Thanks to Juliet for the photos

Tonal studies of still life

The theme for November is still life, initially in tone, then in full colour. The full details are on the (updated) programme page.

Orders for Ken Bromley and frames

Juliet writes:
"I am going to start collecting orders for a Ken Bromley group order and also another frame order. This time I am sending for the samples for canvasses. So if anyone wants to order please let me know."

TAG Art & Crafts Exhibition

On 1 Oct 2011 we held our annual show. Members of the group exhibited drawings and paintings of topics covered the previous year, and children from the local school showed drawings of elephants and themselves.
Items for sale included paintings, prints, cards, needlework, jewellery and wood-turning.
It was a beautiful, sunny day, and this brought out many visitors who came for a good look round and a cuppa.

Visitors at the exhibition. Thanks to Gerti for the photo.
